How do I know which of my ads are actually making money?
To know which ads are actually making money, compare what each ad platform reports against the orders in your own store, then judge every channel on revenue it can prove with a real click. Attribution software for ecommerce founders, like AdBeacon, does this automatically: it ties each order in your Shopify, WooCommerce or BigCommerce store to the ad click that led to it, so you can see true ROAS by channel, campaign and ad instead of each platform’s self-reported number.
Every channel is measured against these same orders.
MER is the one number no single platform can inflate.
Google holds up best on first-party data. Move budget there first.
Each dot is about 50 customers. Meta prospecting brought in the most first-time buyers.
MER vs ROAS, in plain English
MER (marketing efficiency ratio) is total store revenue divided by total marketing spend. It’s the founder’s scoreboard: it can’t be gamed by any single platform, but it can’t tell you which channel to scale. ROAS (return on ad spend) is revenue attributed to one channel, campaign or ad divided by its spend. It tells you where to move money, but only if the attribution behind it is trustworthy. Founders need both: MER to know if the whole machine works, and first-party ROAS to know which parts to feed.
Why does my ROAS look great when my bank account doesn’t?
You’ve seen it. Meta says 4x. Google says 5x. Your agency’s monthly deck is full of green arrows. Then you look at the bank account and the math doesn’t work.
Why the numbers don’t add up
It’s not that anyone is lying. Every ad platform reports on its own performance, counts conversions its own way and takes credit for people who only saw an ad. Stack those reports together and they claim more revenue than your store ever made. Your team optimizes to those numbers because they’re the numbers they’re given.
Why it lands on you
As the founder, you’re the one who has to decide whether to raise the budget, cut a channel or change agencies. You shouldn’t have to make that call on numbers each platform wrote about itself.
Sound familiar? Three signs your ad numbers are off.
Each one is common, fixable, and costs real money every month it goes unchecked.
Meta, Google and TikTok can all claim the same $1,840 sofa order. Your store only got paid once.

Reports built from platform numbers always look good. You need a number the agency didn’t choose.

AdBeacon for founders and owners: FAQ
What is attribution software for ecommerce founders?
It’s software that shows which ads, channels and campaigns lead to orders in your store, so you can decide where to spend. AdBeacon does this with click-only, first-party data, tying each order to the real ad click behind it instead of relying on each platform’s self-reported numbers.
Should I trust the ROAS in Meta Ads Manager?
Use it as context, not as the final word. Meta, like every ad platform, reports on its own performance and can count people who saw an ad without clicking. AdBeacon shows Meta’s reported ROAS next to the first-party ROAS from your store, so you can see the gap and decide on the verified number.
How do I know if my agency’s reporting is accurate?
Compare their numbers to your store’s orders. If reported revenue across platforms adds up to more than your store sold, some of it is double-counted. AdBeacon gives you and your agency the same first-party view, so reports start from the same verified data.
What’s a good MER for an ecommerce brand?
It depends on your margins, price point and how much of your revenue comes from returning customers. The more useful question is whether MER holds steady or improves as you scale spend. AdBeacon tracks MER alongside first-party ROAS by channel, so you can see which channels are driving changes in it.
Do I need to be technical to use AdBeacon?
No. Setup is simple with hands-on help from our team, and most stores connect in as little as 15 minutes. Founders typically use the summary view, automated reports and Luma, AdBeacon’s built-in AI, to ask questions in plain language.
How long until I see useful data?
You’ll see your store’s orders matched to ad clicks as soon as your store and ad accounts are connected. Longer views, like 30-60-90 day customer value, fill in over time.
How much does AdBeacon cost?
Brand plans start at $299/mo billed monthly with a 30-day free trial, or $239/mo on the 12-month Annual Anchor plan. Every plan includes every feature.
Does AdBeacon work with my store platform?
Yes, if you’re on Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or a custom store. AdBeacon connects to Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Microsoft Ads, Pinterest, Snapchat, Amazon Ads, Klaviyo and GA4.
Can my team and agency use it too?
Yes. Your media buyer, marketing lead and agency can all work from the same first-party data in AdBeacon.
Will AdBeacon guarantee better ROAS?
No tool can promise that, and we don’t. AdBeacon gives you more accurate, verifiable data. Brands on AdBeacon have seen average gains like 15 to 20% revenue growth in the first 90 days, but results depend on the decisions your team makes with the data.
